Front Sight Training Courses

by

Front Sight offered one of the widest course catalogs of any civilian school in the 2000s. This is the lineup as it stood when After Action.net trained there in November 2006.

Handgun

  • Half-day, 1-day, 2-day and 4-day Defensive Handgun, with night versions of the 2-day course.
  • 2-day Handgun Skill Builder and 2-day Advanced Tactical Handgun, both also offered at night.
  • 4-day Handgun Combat Master Prep and 4-day Advanced Integrated Handgun.
  • 1-day 30-State Concealed Weapon Permit and the 5-day Armed Citizen Corps.

Shotgun

  • Half-day, 1-day, 2-day and 4-day Tactical Shotgun, plus Skill Builder and night courses and a 4-day Advanced Tactical Shotgun.
  • The 2-day course aimed to have students engaging targets quickly to 25 yards with buckshot, and to 100 yards with slugs.

Rifle

  • Half-day to 4-day Practical Rifle, Skill Builder and night courses, 4-day Advanced Practical Rifle, and Precision Rifle 1 and 2.

Automatic weapons

  • Uzi submachine gun courses from half a day to four days, and 2-day and 4-day select-fire M16, open to private citizens and law enforcement.

Other

  • Rope, rappel and climbing courses on the school’s training tower, plus non-firearms courses in martial arts, edged weapons and more.

Notes

  • The school’s marketing claimed its handgun graduates would outshoot most people who carry a gun for a living. Treat that as the school’s own claim.
  • After Action.net took the 4-day Defensive Handgun course and the 30-State CCW course; see First Time at Front Sight and Front Sight Training.
  • The school later went through bankruptcy proceedings; check its current status and offerings before planning a visit.

Takeaways

  • Short skill-builder courses are a good way to return to a school between longer classes.
  • Night versions of standard courses are worth seeking out; low light is where most defensive encounters happen.
