Course overview

  • School: Magpul Dynamics, with instructors including Chris Costa and Steve Fisher
  • Course: Dynamic Carbine 2, fast-paced, hands-on advanced carbine work
  • Location: Marana Shooting Club, near Tucson, Arizona
  • Host: Arizona Armament, an online Magpul accessories dealer
  • Students: Federal, state and local law enforcement plus civilians, many of whom traveled from across the country

Conditions

  • Day one opened right after a rainstorm, so the morning zero and range work happened in the mud. Write-in-the-rain paper was the right call for note taking.

What students received

  • Arizona Armament and the class sponsors handed out a gear bag with samples and catalogs, including eye protection, Magpul PMAGs and stickers, cleaning product samples and target catalogs. Not a reason to take a class, but a nice perk.

The host’s view

  • The class was described as hard, fast and fun, with instructors who build a foundation and show each student the specific areas to work on.
  • Southern Arizona shooters had been asking for Magpul Dynamics to come to the area, and the host worked to bring them back.

Takeaways

  • Carbine 2 moves quickly; arrive with Carbine 1 skills already solid.
  • Plan for weather, even in Arizona: rain gear, waterproof notes and spare gloves.
  • Read the Carbine 1 report for the first half of the week.
