Some concealed carry classes include a look at less-lethal options. Gun Websites filmed a Taser C2 demonstration during a CCW class.
How the C2 works
- Open the cover and the laser shows where the probes will go.
- Press the button to fire. Two probes deploy on wires, with a range of about 15 feet.
- The probes do not have to pierce skin. They need to get through clothing and be close enough to the body.
- It is loud. Not gunshot loud, but loud enough to startle.
After it fires
- Set it down and move away while it cycles. Closing the cover stops the cycle.
- If the threat continues, open the cover and fire the cycle again.
- The front can also be used as a contact stun device on a second person.
Accountability
- Each cartridge releases small confetti-like tags printed with serial numbers, so a deployment can be traced to the buyer.
- Buying cartridges involves registering and a background check.
Points to consider
- A worn-out demo target does not react like a person. Seeing one fired is still useful to understand the range and the noise.
- Check your state and local laws on carrying a stun device.
- Less-lethal tools have a place. They are not a substitute for training with your primary defensive tools.
